Rear terrace Home Farm Court, Frant - Gardenproud

Case Study 2

Rear terrace Home Farm Court, Frant

Challenge

A retired couple wanted to improve the appearance and usability of the front and rear aspects of their home in Frant.

Home Farm Court is a pleasant complex of homes set surrounding an inner courtyard and gardens. Each dwelling also has its own rear courtyard and front garden area. The complex is set in the heart of Frant with beautiful countryside views.

Since moving into Home Court to be near their family, the clients (who were of Spanish origin) had had little time to focus on the garden and this had fallen into disuse.

Gardenproud were initially asked to redesign the rear courtyard, turning this into both a welcome retreat in summer months, and to enhance the view from the adjoining lounge.

The client also wanted a low maintenance garden design and to encourage wildlife.

Solution

Gardenproud designed a new rear terrace garden, incorporating a unique paving pattern to help accentuate space and create interest. The paving has a warm Mediterranean glow, and a brick border contrasts and links in with the building colour.

The building itself has a rather austere appearance, so trellis was used to help link the garden and house. This was stained to match the window frames and used front and back of the house thus creating a unified theme.

A birdbath and bespoke bird table were incorporated, as well as a trellis obelisk. Gardenproud also sourced a Lutyens bench, and a café table and chairs into the scheme.

Interesting ceramic wall planters helped integrate further the house and garden.

A planting plan was then developed and implemented using a common theme for front and rear areas.
